It was said just yesterday that a work by Dora Atwater-Millikin was promised to grace our spaces. This is very exciting news! Please see Dora's website. Once you have experienced her work you will have a great sense of appreciation of her rendering of light with subject. So incredibly pleasing are her paintings - it like having our own Monet right here in Westport.
check out her site at http://www.wyndfieldstudio.com/
Currently at the Westport Planning Board Office Window installation by SM Powers.

Additional works are being Considered
Recently a few notable Westport artists were approached and requested to participate. The great news is that they all said they would and so before revealing who they are, it would be great to hear from the residents of Westport, who they think these person might be - or suggest other artists who may be interested.

New and endorsed by the Board of Selectmen
Art in the Work Place is a brand new program in Westport that will bring local artist's work into municipal offices on a rotational basis. Recently endorsed by the Board of Selectmen, local artist's will have the opportunity to disply their creations to the public in a new way. People frequenting municipal offices will now see these works and the artist will be exhibiting in a new type of space. Inquiries are directed to the individual artist. The program benefits the artist, the general public and the employees. The program will help foster economic development through exposure in a public venue and also provide for a pleasant work environment known to be healthful and influencing morale in a positive way.
Completely on an voluntary basis and as appropriate for each municipal offce.
Currently on display in both the Nursing Department and the Planning Board Offices at the Town Hall Annex is Susan Mohl Powers. Here SMP illustrates her ability to employ "art that solves a problem". SMP uses soft sheer textile designs thaa give the appearance of stanied glass to help filter the southern sunlight in the 10 foot windows. Her diffused layered textiles are also calming and give a subtle feeling of tranquility to the large wall spaces. Susan has one oil painting on dispaly that resonates the joyfulness of a bright day in its yellows and blues - thus brightening our steely grey winter days. SMP has displayed her textiles in the US, England and Italy.
Hours for municipal business are 8:30 -4:00pm Monday through Friday excluding certain holidays.
